For Sale listing

"ANTIQUE WOOD TODDLER POTTING TRAINING CHAIR"

Isn't that a violation of child labor laws, regardless of how comfortable that chair is?

Hypocrite

One thing (of many) that I just don't get about English pronunciation and spelling is why the word in the title of this post is not spelled hypocrit or pronounced so that the last syllable rhymes with might.

Shouldn't one or the other be the case?

After all, don't we say write, brite and bite with long Is, instead of writ, brit and bit, which have altogether different meanings?

Get back to me on that, would you.

Another take on those college assignments

On craigslist, this a.m.:

I need about 35 pages of freshman-undergraduate-level bullshit on Anerican Literature. I'm almost 30. I don't need this shit. I'll pay you, say $350. Or make your offer. I need this in like 2-3 weeks. Unemployed writers, help me out!

Thank you.

But, but ... what about freedom of speech?

New York Times Bans The Word 'Tweet' (The Awl)
Phil Corbett, the standards editor at the New York Times, issued a memo asking writers to abstain from past-tense and other iterations of the noun/verb "Twitter." Writes Corbett: "'Tweet' may be acceptable occasionally for special effect. But let's look for deft, English alternatives: use Twitter, post to or on Twitter, write on Twitter, a Twitter message, a Twitter update. Or, once you've established that Twitter is the medium, simply use 'say' or 'write.'"

craigslist, again

Can you work me?

Another goodie from craigslist:
Are you a creative writer who can help me re-write a book (about 200 pages)? I fact, I need someone who works me, not just someone who wants to make a few, quick bucks. If interested, email me, please.

Memorable movie line

Akeela and the Bee -- “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
